Covered Porch… The Cloister. Inspired from Europe’s monasteries, the cloister is build to enclose an interior courtyard on three sides… the 4th side was left out to allow visibility of the backyard, the additional ½ acre of manicured loan. There is an old fountain, dating back to the original house that was located in the place of the courtyard, built in 1869.
The covered fountain on the left and the old Chinese vistiria that grew on the old brick foundation of the old house, create a partial 4th side of the cloister.
Additional Info: We kept the old house banister and some of the spindles and incorporated them in the second staircase going from the mud room entrance to the second floor to leave a piece of the home’s original character.
